Hatay Workshop for the “Media and Civil Society Cooperation for Rights of Refugees” project, was held at the Iskenderun Anemon Hotel on the 1st of November, 2017. This project was run by IGAM, in partnership with the Journalists’ Association, funded by the European Union Delegation to Turkey. The workshop began with the presentation of the project coordinator, Ms. Esra Yurt. Then, President of IGAM, Mr. Metin Çorabatır made a presentation called “Refugee Definition, Refugee Rights and Rights Based Approach”.
On the second day of the workshop, “Legal Practice in Turkey” was held by Ankara University Law Faculty, Dr. Neva Öztürk.
After this presentation, “Syria Crisis and Current Sitation in Turkey” was presented by Prof. Dr. Murat Erdoğan.
The project is run with the slogan ‘Objecive Media For Refugees’ and Prof. Dr. Ülkü Doğanay made a presentation under the title of “Hate Speech in the Media” and “Right-based Journalism” to highlight the importance of the slogan and the purpose of the project.
The last presentation of the day was made by the doyen documentarist, Coşkun Aral.
A dinner was held with the participation of all participants in our project, which aims to continue the dialogue by bringing together media representatives and NGO representatives. After the diner, the panel moderated by Prof. Dr. Murat Erdoğan was held and the panelists were the founder of Ravda Nur Association, Ravda Nur Cuma and Coşkun Aral.
The last day of the workshop was opened with the presentation by the Vice President of the Journalists Association, Yusuf Kanlı. He informed about the “Refugee News and News Ethics”.
Then, TOBB University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Başak Yavcan made her speech under the title of “Content Analysis in Media”.
The last presentation of the workshop was made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bora Bayraktar and he made a speech about “the Perception of the Refugees in Media.
After the workshops, certificates were given to the participants and the training was finished.
